Sunnyvale Police and FireThe Biological Impact of Stress on Health & Health Promotion (not open to the public)

Location: Sunnyvale

Presentation on the impact stress has on one’s overall health and the promotion of optimal health. This presentation is part of a progressive, integrative training for First Responders on Stress and Health with an emphasis on prevention. Police and Fire officials are in the unique role of being the first on line to respond to emergency situations.  They are regularly exposed to the acute and chronic trauma of others and experience extreme stress and trauma personally by virtue of the expectations of their job. Traditionally, they receive little to no training on the impact of stress on their health and how to manage and move out of stress to maintain optimal health.  Included in the presentation will be a review of the basic anatomy and physiology of the stress response system.  We will discuss how to identify when this system is adaptive and when it crosses over into unhealthy territory. Suggestions for recognizing how to identify when this occurs and how to move from a state of imbalance back to a state of well being will be offered.
